Infographic: Google’s top 100 keywords

Read on to see the most prevalent terms and phrases on the world’s preeminent search engine.

Top Google keywordsKeywords are the kings and queens of the SEO chess match.

How you deploy and attack certain keywords can determine how people find your business on Google—or possibly not. Crafting a wily keyword strategy requires plenty of research, but a good start is getting a handle on what people are searching for.

Siege Media has compiled a handy infographic that lists Google’s top 100 (non-branded) U.S.-searched keywords. The top 10 are:

  • Weather
  • Maps
  • Translate
  • Calculator
  • YouTube to mp3
  • Speed test
  • News
  • Thesaurus
  • Powerball
  • Donald Trump

It gets a tad weird after that. “Happy wheels,” “slitherio” and “g” are all in the top 25. “Dictionary” makes the top 25 as well, a rare sign of intelligent life amid a sea of inconsequential keyword horsefeathers and digital poppycock. Other top terms include:

  • Sports
  • Entertainment
  • YouTube music
  • Flights
  • Bitcoin
  • Restaurants

Communicators might find of interest that “email” clocks in at 68. Curiously, “MLA format” and “APA citation” rank 75 and 76, respectively.
