Infographic: The perils of an unhappy workforce

Seven out of 10 U.S. employees are disengaged at work and not producing up to their potential. That’s a huge problem for businesses of all stripes.

Good&Co has created an infographic that addresses the ramifications of low morale around the office—which are more substantial (and financial) than you might imagine. The graphic cites the Gallup statistic that disengaged workers cost the U.S. economy upward of $550 billion in lost productivity each year.

As costly as apathy is, turnover might be even more so. The infographic states:

What are the financial implications of keeping workers dialed in? According to the infographic, companies with a “highly engaged workforce” lifted income by 19.2 percent over the course of a year. Meanwhile, businesses with poor engagement saw income sink by 32.7 percent over the same period.
