What if you worked in the office part of the week, and spent the rest of your days working from home?
How would your life be different?
In today’s world, such a scenario isn’t so impossible. Half of the American workforce is already able to telecommute at least part time, and one in 10 employees work from home at least once a week. Since 2005, the amount of telecommuters in the United States has grown 66 percent.
CarInsurance.org researched what life is like for these lucky workers, and illustrated its findings in an infographic. Let’s just say it’s pretty sweet.
Allowing employees to commute part time would:
1. Help the environment.
- The oil saved would be equivalent to one-third of America’s yearly Persian Gulf imports.
- The reduction in greenhouse gases would be equivalent to the state of New York’s entire workforce never commuting again.
2. Save time and money.
- On average, a commuter spends $1,500 a year on gasoline. A part-time commuter could save $750.
- Workers’ average commute time is about 25 minutes. By not commuting, a worker could save almost 109 hours per year.
3. Make people happier, healthier and more productive.
- Eight in 10 employees who telecommute part time feel they have a good work-life balance.
- Three in four employees say they eat healthier when they work from home.
- Working from home increases productivity 10 to 20 percent.
