While the Indian economy is exploding, the employee communication profession is merely smoldering—for the moment
There are about 1.13 billion people in India. Like the economy it fuels, the Indian population grows significantly every single day—actually, at the rate of one person per second.
So in a country that big and fast-growing—with so many companies so vibrant—how many internal communication specialists are there?
“I would think just a handful,” says Aniisu Verghese, a rare internal communications consultant based in Bangalore.
He writes a blog on internal communications in India, called Intraskope, and he describes the internal communication profession in India as “nascent”—one of many responsibilities of an HR or PR department. “It is quite rare to have a separate entity by itself which drives internal communications,” he says.
Though Verghese is pretty much the only Indian internal communication specialist Ragan.com could find in a year of looking, Ragan.com could not bring ourselves to believe what he was saying. So we spoke with a number of others who have a close-up view of internal communications in India.
