A look at how and why the Ohio State Medical Center translates online content for non-English speaking visitors
Those of us responsible for Web design and content are fluent in several languages—from html to Java.
Our Web team tackled a few more languages recently when we were asked to redesign pages on Ohio State University Medical Center’s site to include information in Chinese, Russian, Somali and Spanish.
While our Medical Center is located in the Midwest, we serve a diverse patient population. In fact, our Medical Center’s Interpretive Services Department had nearly 30,000 requests last year for onsite language assistance.
Our Web team worked closely with our Interpreter Services and Customer Services staff to build our Interpreter Services Web site.
Here’s how we got the job done.
