Pinterest more popular among men in the U.K.

Pinterest looks much different in the United Kingdom than it does in the U.S. Make sure your brand knows the differences before it starts pinning.

Americans may think Pinterest is a social network created for women; filled only with snapshots of dream houses and do-it-yourself projects.

Not so for pinners in the United Kingdom.

According to an infographic from Visual.ly, Pinterest users in the U.K. are different from those in the U.S. One major difference is that while 83 percent of U.S. Pinterest users are female, men represent the majority of the U.K. user base.

Pinterest also has a much smaller, wealthier following across the pond. While the U.S. boasts 12 million users, the U.K. only has 200,000. U.K. users are also much wealthier, with 29 percent of living in the highest income bracket.

But the differences don’t stop there. Pin boards in the U.K. focus more on venture capital, blogging resources and Web stats, while U.S. users tend to pin crafts, gift items and interior design inspiration.
