Universities band together to launch content-rich website

A 58-member consortium is seeking to reach the public by producing its own content to counter the decline in mainstream media coverage of science research.

You may be interested to know that the early universe might have had only one dimension, like a straight line.

Or that playing a musical instrument may help fight cognitive decline. Or that African-American students are more likely to tweet than their white counterparts.

Stories on these topics are published on Futurity, a website launched by a consortium of university communicators at a time when the mainstream media are slashing their coverage of science and research.

Futurity looks more like a snazzy Web magazine than a link farm for science abstracts. It offers a model for organizations—corporate and government—to enable the public to tap into aquifers of content.
