Ragan research: Training and development are crucial to employee retention

The ability to further one’s career is a significant factor in how employees view their organization.

There’s not just one way to keep your employees happy. But one of the biggest keys to keeping your employees motivated and productive centers on having the proper training and career development opportunities. Communicators are increasingly the conduit between employees and leadership, reporting the needs and desires of employees up the ladder. It’s up to you to not only know what employees need to become more proficient in their careers, but also provide them with the education and resources to get there.

Beyond the paycheck

There’s no doubt that money is a major motivator for many employees. But there’s much more that keeps them motivated and engaged in their jobs. According to the 2023 Ragan Communications Benchmark Report, comms pros recognize that maximizing the skills of those on their team through talent development is key. A majority of respondents are placing major emphasis on developing the data analysis (65%) and storytelling skills (57%) of their employees going forward. In a where communicators need to be able to decipher what stories the data is telling, these two skills combined can serve as a major opportunity for comms employees hoping to become leaders.
