AGENDA

9-10:45 a.m.

Start with you—the potential impact, power and influence of the master internal communicator

Everything we do begins with us…and may or may not end with us, but somewhere in the journey, we have a say. We'll start the day with looking at our roles and being honest and realistic in what we have control over…and what we don't…and go from there. Part therapy session/support group venting on pain points we experience as obstacles and part exercise on where we identify bad habits that end up being self-sabotage, the morning will help clearly identify where we are, and where we want to be as master internal communicators.

  • Get real on where we are and design a vision for where we want to be
  • What's needed, what are the gaps, what are our strengths and where do we need to ask for help
10:45-11 a.m.

Break

11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Skills and talents of the master internal communicator translated to a strategic partner

We'll identify areas in our roles that need our most valuable assets…our time and attention. We'll have a clear action list of what is a priority, how to filter and discern, know when and how to listen to employees and leaders, identify where our efforts can make the most impact to the most people, most beneficially. We'll look at how to ensure our efforts align to strategy, will make a difference and solve/address real challenges in the business, be relevant and meaningful to our audiences.

  • Tips to identify if it's really a communications problem vs. a process, technology, etc. problem
  • Prioritize work to reduce noise and drive quality over quantity
  • Ideas on how to package and align programs to strategy for relevance and impact
12:15-1:15 p.m.

The importance of culture in effective internal communications

Culture can be a key differentiator to attract and retain top talent and certainly plays a significant role on if a business will meet its business goals. In looking at research based on how to build trust, bonds and ensure integrity in communications, we'll look at how we can apply the research to our work.

  • Clarify how we honestly define our culture vs. the desired culture
  • Identify ways we can apply research best practices into key efforts
  • Look at who in our leadership can be the change agents and best role models
2:30-2:45 p.m.

Break

2:45-4:15 p.m.

Culture isn't just an HR thing: taking full advantage of communications to help our desired culture stick

As a master internal communicator, it's imperative that we learn all we can about storytelling, channels, audiences, authenticity, transparency to reinforce our values, shift behaviors, unify teams, build trust in leadership and at the end of the day, know how to skillfully apply our influence to make those we touch with our efforts be better humans.

  • Being intentional and consistent in reflecting and co-creating culture in our communications
  • Discuss best practices and share case studies of what's worked for us in shifting culture
  • Walk out with a plan of where we are now, to where we want to be with articulated doable next steps to set us up for success
